    Hi.
    All your recent tutorials are horizontally clipped. The div with id main is 700px wide and it needs to be 1024px in order to show the full area of the tutorial. Tested with FF 3.5 on Mac OS

    Hi.
    Great tutorial but I have two questions :
    - why didn’t you use “Empty” instead of cubes to animate the camera ?
    - why didn’t you parent the camera directly to the animated cube ?

    -Simply Put, I can Grab and Control a cube a lot easier than an Empty, and since this is a gradual learning course, I have to introduce the Empty . . . It is a great point that an Empty can do the exact same job, I use the cube for 3 reasons. 1. I am a tad Lazy, 2. One day the Empty will not exist at all, the cube is forever 3. The Physical Presence of the cube is easier to grab/Comprehend for younger learners.

    as for parenting the Camera to the cube . . . What if I changed my mind and wanted to turn Ken Burns into a softbody or something for effect? getting used to Ken Burns makes it easy to come up with possibilities for him!!!!

    No problem for me, video shows at 1024 x 768 in FF 3.5.3, Flash 10.0.32.18 on Linux 2.6.31 (Archlinux)

    Nice simple tutorial,
    but you’re gonna have to learn your maths a bit better! There are only 360 degrees in a circle – not 365 :)

    My suggestion regarding tutorials is that it might be best to break it down into shorter sections and record each individually, re-recording thngs when they go wrong (like the IPO endpoint for the cleavers rotation not matching the location – hence the sudden speed up at the end of the travel).

    Cool tutorial, I have been modeling in blender for years, but I never touched animation part, now I have urge to animate something. :)

    I enjoyed the tutorial. I teach some Blender stuff to my 2nd year computer students (8th grade) and I am always looking for things like this that are fairly simple for them to do and that appeals to this age group. I think this will be one I show them.

    However, I have seen exactly this type of animation in many movies and they always seem to forget one thing that makes it seem fake. It is the same thing you forgot to account for – gravity. The animation looks much more realistic when the cleaver travels in an arc – just one more IPO curve for location on the Z axis.

    That is a great response, in fact you are right, gravity would play into it for sure. methinks a revision is in order.

    What screen capture program do you use?

    I use Camstudio for the Blender Tutorials, the footage is Edited, In Blender and Compressed in Handbrake!

    Nice little tutorial you put together here. I was thinking about the gravity thing, too, but for illustrating the idea you did really well. Informative as well as understandable.
